Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Often bullying happens because a student does not realize or understand how their words or actions hurt their peers. Bullying occurs in my classroom mainly because of pride. My goal is to help my students have pride without bullying or hurting each others' feelings.
Working at a Title I school many of my students come from low income families.
For many of them they are simply doing what they need to survive in the world; often times this means bullying because they have no other way to communicate their thoughts. Pride often gets in the way of their true feelings and they are unable to express themselves without hurting their friends. As a new kindergarten teacher I have limited resources to help me teach my student about bullying. Having these essentials would help me reach my students and educate them on how bullying can hurt their peers.
My Project
I am requesting the book Bullying in Schools along with pictures books and storytelling kits that help students build self-esteem and understand their feelings and emotions. With these resources I will be able to help my students understand and express themselves without causing other students to be judged. These resources will help me to teach my student how to use their words to build their peers up and not bring them down. I know that with the resources I have requested my classroom with become a beacon of light and each student will understand how to be kind to their peers and treat them with respect.
What a huge difference this project will make in my classroom.
My students will understand how to better express their true feelings without hurting their peers feelings. My students will genuinely realize how to say kind and caring things to their classmates not words that will hurt them. They will understand how to have pride in themselves while treating their classroom friends with respect.
