My students are talented and motivated artists who work hard to combine their love of the arts with their academic studies. We are an arts school in NYC where students from diverse backgrounds are united in their dedication to artistic and academic excellence. Approximately three fourths of my students are female.
Through hands-on exploration my artistic students will see the science that shapes the world around us.
Understanding the science of climate change, disease, and human health will empower my students to positively shape the world around them. Science, technology, and policy shape the future. Gaining scientific knowledge will give power to my students' voices as they make choices that will impact our futures.
My Project
These blood typing materials will allow my students to see firsthand science of genetics and the immune system in action. Making science accessible and tangible will help my students understand the importance of knowing blood type in saving life.
Understanding how blood is typed, how blood type is passed through genes and how the immune system response influences the type of blood that can be safely transfused are all important concepts my students will master after this activity.
Blood saves lives but only if used correctly. As the world has recently faced challenging events, humans have stepped in to help by donating blood. Understanding how this blood can save lives can empower my students to make change in the world.
