My Students

My students are part of a multilingual, Sheltered English Immersion K0 (Preschool) classroom. We are located in a full inclusion school, within the Boston Public Schools. All of my students are three and four years old and are learning English as a second language. Some of my students are learning English as a second language and receiving special education support for a wide range of developmental delays.

The children in my classroom are joyful, motivated, enthusiastic, and excited to learn and explore their world.

My Project

Preschoolers love to read their favorite stories again, and again and again. My project is about being able to send home one of the books from each of our six units of study.

When children listen to a favorite story read multiple times, they will begin 'reading' it themselves by looking at the pictures and using their knowledge of the story, if it is available.

Over time, they will learn how to hold a book, master directionality of print and recognize the connection between illustrations and the words on a page.

Pretending to read a favorite book, is an important step in learning to read. My dream is to give each student in my classroom, a book from each of our units, so that they can take them home and read them with their families, again, and again, and again.
