Our colorful, multicultural atmosphere will disappear into one lean...clean, serene, GREEN room for one week as we study the different ways to observe, conserve and preserve the earth around us. I am a kindergarten teacher who works with students of various backgrounds and cultural representations. I work in a high-need, public community in Michigan. Most, if not all of my children receive free lunch, and are willing to attend after school programs to further enrich their learning experiences. I believe the environment in which I teach possesses many jewels. The students precious and pliable young minds who are anticipate a world of experiences through inquiry and investigation.
My students are highly interested in earth science and plant life. What I realize is that there are many aspects of earth science that are to be explored that coincide with plants and the preservation of our environment. I am also teaching my students early on how to think scientifically. We will continuously explore and revisit the five step scientific method. The interest in Science is so high and I just want to continue to ignite that spark further by repeated exposure various scientific themes.
The resources that I need for this 2 week project are earth science readers, books, plastic terrariums, science journals, gravel, sand, rocks, charts, poster boards, gift-able incentives pertaining to the environment (pencils, erasers, little certificates, treats) small plastic recycling bins, games, and manipulatives. This project serve as a major benefit to my students because it appeals to their five senses, it generates scientific dialogs, discussions questions and writing. Thinking scientifically builds vocabulary, analytical and higher order skills, which is pertinent if not vital, to early childhood success in the present and future.
I know your help will serve as a great and joyous investment in the betterment of education for out "future leaders and scientists." Get on board!!! I appreciate all that you do!! Thanks for making a difference1
