Don't you remember having a question for your teacher he/she couldn't answer right away? In today's classroom there is an opportunity for discovery, an opportunity to allow students to answer those questions through guidance and technology.
Students at our school are very interesting and unique.
We have students who perform on all levels of the spectrum, however each and every child brings a unique contribution to the class. Our students love to discover. Many students often ask, "May I look that up in your encyclopedia?"
Statistics prove that if students are able to follow a topic based off of a question they've created, they will be more interested in the subject at hand. Quite often students ask questions that I want them to discover on their own. By self-discovery, students learn to advocate for their learning. My students attend a charter school that is publicly funded and that encourages the integration of technology in all classrooms.
Since students have such a variety of ways to learn standards, the more resources available to a teacher the better. Resources such as: iPads, computers, a SmartBOARD, tablets, books, resources that they are more likely to use as relevant to their lives.
My Project
An iPad would provide so much to a Science classroom like mine. When we have such unique questions presented by the students such as, "If energy is neither created nor distorted, how is sound energy transferred?" Self discovery advocates for research and further studies in education.
I will be able to pass the class "pad" to the students allowing wireless Internet for the student to research and report back within seconds. Rather than a simple answer provided by teacher, the student learns how to develop a testable question. The student develops techniques that allow him/her to solve problems through discovery and technology.
Through articles, videos, and reports, students have access to endless amounts of learning opportunities.
An iPad would also allow me to show those struggling students immediate grade reports through online progress reports available at a fingertip. Without students being called to the front, students can remain seated with discreet grade reports.
Overall our society is so technologically advanced that in order to capture interests of students, classroom technology must remain up to date.
The funds donated to purchase a classroom iPad will allow students immediate access to grades, questions, videos, vocabulary pronunciations, and any other aid students may need in the learning environment. An iPad is that relevant technological piece that would encourage advocacy for education amongst students in my classroom.
