Help me give my students a class set of the novel, "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio, as well as multicultural art supplies that will enable our class to celebrate diversity in our projects and compositions.
My students are transitioning into middle grades as well as new phases of responsibility, social growth, and academic challenge.
They are discovering the wonder of the world we live in, their place in it, and how they can begin to impact change.
My students represent diverse ethnic backgrounds yet work easily together to achieve goals. Our surrounding community is economically, ethnically, and literacy diverse, my students, regardless of their differences, all possess an enthusiasm for learning that inspires me to do the absolute best for each of them that I can, in the specific way that they need me to.
My Project
My students will read about students in the same age group that face some of the same challenges they face. The story chronicles the characters fifth grade adventures and growing pains that will be familiar and relatable to my students through their own fifth grade adventures.
With these books and supplies, my students will be able to read and express their understanding of the novel by creating their "Natural Wonder" self portrait.
It is extremely important that all students have access to supplies that accurately reflect the beauty in each of us. My goal is to help my students understand that diversity makes our class, school, and community beautiful and strong.
