This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students just love to create and explore new art techniques. They really look forward to attending my art class each week. We are a culturally diverse school with students from over 20 different countries represented. We look for creative opportunities. Our school is a place where we turn our mistakes into masterpieces.
Here, we turn our "Mistakes into Masterpieces." We have a very welcoming atmosphere at this school.
As a Title I school we are a low income and high poverty/needs school. Our school is a neighborhood school that is located in a low socioeconomic zone of urban North Carolina. Each child at our school receives free breakfast and lunch through our nutrition program. In addition to breakfast and lunch, they also each also receive a healthy snack of fresh fruits or vegetables each day.
My Project
My school is rich in diversity and many cultures are represented within our school walls. The books I have requested are books that are a reflection of our school community. I want to add to our art room library, books that are reflective and empowering to my students.
They will see "themselves" on the book shelves.
Representation does matter to me and to our school. These publications are books that reflect their life experiences and languages. I plan to include these books in various lesson plans for my students and their art projects. My hope is that these books will inspire them and they will see no limits to who they are now or in their bright futures.
