Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing little sponges of knowledge. They love to learn! They are all at different levels and different backgrounds but they all come together for one purpose, learning. They start by enjoying being read to but each day they strive to learn to read on their own. It's incredible to see them reading to their classmates and volunteering with excitement to read when they have finally accomplished their goal.
Those little brains of theirs are so full of thirst for knowledge.
It's incredible to see how one student can come in not knowing how to speak English and go out being able to not only speak English but also read and write. It doesn't matter what level they are they all improve and become better with support and love.
My Project
The use of technology in the classroom is known to be useful but what happens when you give students that technology for reading. Being able to provide some of my students with a tablet for reading will help them improve their language and reading skills. They can improve many skills like phonemic awareness, letter recognition, word recognition, decoding as well as language skills. The tablets can help them learn at their level and pace, therefore, scaffolding their learning.
Every child can learn if given the right time and appropriate assistance needed.
The tablets will be a way to support them to have better small group instruction. It is like having a personal teacher to guide you through. Students can be engaged and learning whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners. All learning styles can be met using technology!
