Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All 300 of our amazing first and second grade students come to school eager for what they will learn each day. Their love of learning is absolutely contagious and exciting!
Our school motto is "Caring for Children Today, Creating Leaders for Tomorrow." I consider it one of my life's greatest blessings to be able to work alongside the best student scholars and educators in the country to help care for our students today while creating leaders for tomorrow!
This school has been my home for the last fourteen years and is committed to providing its students with all of the resources that are needed to engage students in rigorous, dynamic and inspirational instructional activities. There may be times when we do not have what we need, but we have taken on the "We can't yet..." not a "We can't..." attitude. All of the resources we want to provide to our students are available to us through the magic of DonorsChoose.org thanks to donors!
My Project
We all know that students grow as readers by reading every single day. However, our first and second grade classrooms are in need of books for our classroom library so they can read. The majority of our classroom libraries are fictional texts so we are trying to grow them with informational text sets. Many of these informational books are directly related to our science and social studies as well.
It is important for our students to not just have time to read independently during reading workshop daily, but to have plenty of just right books on a variety of genres.
