Reading is something we do everyday and in the state of Indiana all students are tested for grade level comprehension in third grade with a test called IREAD.
My school is a very special place because we only have 2nd/3rd grade students and I have them for both grades, so IREAD is our end goal.
My students work very hard, for the two years that they are with me, to prepare for the IREAD test that takes place at the end of third grade.
From the first day of second grade until the test day in third grade my students are practicing reading fiction, nonfiction, and working with phonics. I always tell me students that they have the skills they need to meet their goal of passing IREAD. But its a daunting goal and it makes the students very anxious.
My Project
I want to give my students the confidence in their reading and their ability to meet the IREAD goal. Please help my do this by providing them with books to read. These books are fiction and nonfiction. The fiction books are word family books and sight words books. They will help my students who are still working on sight words and work towards becoming fluent readers. The literary elements cards will help me to push strong readers. Some nonfiction are leveled books. They allow all my students to successfully read books on the same topic and prepare for the nonfiction passages on IREAD. Some of the nonfiction books are lower levels to help struggling readers become exposed to the features of nonfiction that they will encounter on IREAD.
It is so important that my students pass IREAD at the end of third grade.
This test determines whether or not they can go to fourth grade. Please help me give my second and third graders the tools they need to feel prepared and ready to conquer the daunting goal of passing IREAD!
