Mrs. Carman from Houston TX is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 5 iPads and a Dash robot to enhance their learning and catch up on missed days from Hurricane Harvey. These technological resources would provide my students with limitless opportunities.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My classroom is made up of many different cultures. My students speak several different languages; Spanish, Yoruba, and Vietnamese are just a few! They see education as a path to a better future and have a deep desire to be successful in life.
Many of my students are extremely creative and driven but lack technology at home to express their full creativity and own their learning!
I teach at a PK-fourth grade school in Houston Texas, our school is home to over 900 students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 80% of our students receiving free lunch or reduced price lunch. Many of our students receive food backpacks each weekend. We offer several clubs and organizations like GirlStart, Boys to Men, and Young Leaders of Tomorrow, and our boy's Code Club, just to name a few. These extracurricular activities promote and encourage academic success as well as foster positive social skills.
My students love technology but lack the everyday access to it. These 5 iPads will allow my students to collaborate globally and create their own content to spotlight their learning. There are many apps that my students would love to use to create content and share their learning. Unfortunately, most of these apps are only iPad compatible. Additionally, my students will use these devices to complete individualized course work and catch up on all of the content we have missed due to Hurricane Harvey. I am astonished at how resilient my students have been despite the setbacks that our class has faced from missed days and storm damage to our room. Throughout this crazy road to repairing the major storm damage my students work ethic has remained strong. They have called several different rooms in our school home this year as we rebuilt. Throughout all of the transition they have come to school everyday eager to learn and grow. My students love learning things beyond the curriculum, they enjoy creating content, extending their learning and sharing who they are with the world!
My students amaze me everyday with their hard work and desire to learn, research and grow.
Presently, my students have set goals and used their free time to learn the basic coding language Scratch. They would love to apply their hard work and newly acquired skills to a Dash! Coding is going to be an essential skill for all people as we continue moving forward with technology in the 21st century. I believe that my students should have access to the same educational resources that students in affluent areas have. Your donation opens the world to my children and gives them access to show the world how fearless, brilliant, and capable they are.
