I work at an awesome school with bright and creative students!
The community is tight knit, and there are generations of families who have lived and gone to school in the area for years.
However, our district is experiencing tremendous growth, and our available equipment can't keep up with such a large number of students. The school is so supportive of my efforts to expand our music program, but unfortunately, the funds aren't available to do all the things we want to do to enrich their learning experience.
The best feeling in the world is to see a student who struggles in all other academic areas come to music class and become engaged and excited to be at school! For some of these students, music and creative expression will be the one thing that encourages them to stay in school and will be the pathway to success for them in the future! These students love to sing and dance, and I know they have the capacity to do amazing things—if they have access to the tools to feel successful!
My Project
I would like a class set of ukuleles for my students to use in music class. They are so bright and so excited to learn and I see how so many of them spark when I play or let them play my guitar. I think it would be beneficial for my students to practice their learned music concepts on something in addition to the recorder.
The ukuleles will help introduce students to string instruments, with limitless avenues of where they can advance.
There is so much support from the community to offer these opportunities to the students, I just need the instruments to get started!
