This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are our future, little bodies with limitless minds. My intention is to facilitate their desire to learn and explore by offering them a fun, safe, and secure area to learn and explore!
Our class is one of three first grade classes in our school, residing in one of the most poverty stricken neighborhoods in Philadelphia.
Our elementary school is considered a very high poverty and high needs school that lack sufficient resources to give my children the education they deserve!
My thirty-three students come from different ethnic backgrounds such as African American, Latino American, and Asian American. A large majority of the children in my class are first-generation Americans whose first language is not English. Being able to offer my students a quality education, is of the utmost importance. So many of these children come to school expecting a safe, comfortable place to learn; an escape from their turmoils at home, an environment where they feel warm, loved and nurtured.
My Project
With an I-Pad, my students will able to access science resources and our intervention programs such as Lexia for phonics and foundational reading skills and Odyssey for math skills practice.
When my students are able to routinely access these programs, it helps strengthen their foundational skills needed to be "on level" learners.
Our school offers these intervention resources but due to lack of available technology, the programs are not able to be utilized to their fullest potential. With regular access, my students will have one more way to exercise and practice necessary skills needed to succeed and become the best students they can be.
The cases will allow my students to care for and protect the tablet so the can be used from year to year, which in return will allow them to utilize the programs to their fullest potential.
