Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school has a very diverse population with one major thing in common: low socioeconomic status. Our school is a Title I school where 80% of our students receive free breakfast or reduced lunches. A majority of my students don't have access to proper tools, resources or educational reinforcement at home. I try to have as many resources available in the classroom so they can have the proper access to stay engaged and further the learning. We also have a large number of students that are English Language Learners, where English is not spoken at home. These students come from all over the world, some who are even refugees with limited resources. It is very hard to find materials that I can used to reach all academic levels and have relatable content in the classroom. Even though a majority of our students face many hardships throughout the year, our students are eager to learn as they have a sense of inclusion and community in our classroom.

My Project

With the start of every new school year, students are excited about going back to school, but tend to dread the number of books they will be reading. With your help I will change their mind set about reading literature.

I will also be able to introduce students to diverse novels and poems were they can see their identities reflected or learn about cultures different from themselves .

These novels then become relatable, high interest and will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. While learning about history and making an emotional connection through a fictional character, students won't want to put this book down.

The best way to increase a student's reading ability, fluency and love of reading is to read, read, read! These high-interest, self reflective, life changings books will do just that!
