My Students

Have you ever had trouble reading something? Have you ever wished reading could be a little easier? For my students, these are everyday wishes. I teach in a Title 1 school as a reading specialist. My job is to have intense small reading groups with the students who struggle the most with reading.

My students may have a learning disability, lack of support at home, or just struggle with reading.

They are pulled out of their regular classrooms to meet with me for extra help in reading. Most of my students are at least a full grade level below where they should be in reading.

My Project

The slant boards will help my students who have visual problems or students who need the book angled because of glare. Books can be placed on the board at a 22 degree angle to help reduce stress in their eyes. It also can be used for writing and it is magnetic. Students will be able to manipulate letter magnets on the board and write on them as needed.

These boards may not seem like a big deal but for struggling readers, they really are.

The boards are one more step in helping a child have success. They may help a child who never knew they needed that little boost that can be given by using a slant board.
