Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher who works with students who range in disability. My students require extra support to access the curriculum and everyday life. The students at our school represent a diverse group. They come from a variety of countries and backgrounds and speak many different languages. Most of our children have experienced adversity in their lives that they continually strive to overcome. 98% live below the poverty level and more than 50% of our students speak English as a second language. Yet despite these disadvantages, our students are enthusiastic and hardworking, always willing to persevere and give their best.
My forty-five fourth, fifth and sixth grade special needs students are motivated by constant reminders that education is their key to success.
They have the ability and potential to be successful in their future educational careers and in life.
My Project
My students do not have enough seating in my classroom. With the amount of students on my case load and the small amount of room I have in class, stools would be very beneficial. The school I work at does not have any extra chairs for me to use. Most periods I have to have my students take chairs back and forth between the classroom next door so they have somewhere to sit.
Having new stools for my students would help my students focus more on their work.
They can transition into my room, and will have somewhere to sit.
