This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our district educates approximately two hundred fifty residential and day students in kindergarten through grade twelve who have emotional, behavioral and learning problems. Most students reside here and live in cottages with an array of different staff members supporting them.
The computer lab is open to students in grades kindergarten through twelve.
Our classroom is designed to attract all ages and has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere of happiness to it when you enter. We try to keep a peaceful environment. Lessons are tailored to each student's ability and most often, one-on-one instruction is necessary.
My Project
I have one student who I am working with who has tailored lessons due to his level and performance. He needs a Fire Kids tablet to work on some lessons rather than doing what the other students are doing on the PC. He usually sits in the corner of my classroom on a bean bag chair and needs a lot of one-on-one support from myself and staff members. I told him I would try my best to get him a kids tablet.
He would use this for coding on the Tynker app.
He will also feel comfortable by working at his own pace with assistance from myself and other staff members. He was thrilled when he heard me speak of my effort in suggesting this project for him. I think this will not only benefit him but this Fire Kids tablet would help out in the classroom with students who need alternate seating and more of a personalized lesson plan.
