We are a mixed age classroom of busy, inquisitive, and curious 3-5 year olds. We learn through play-based learning which really means learning through experiences. Each day students engage with learning through hands-on exploration. Students come from a variety of backgrounds with 73% of our school receiving free or reduced-price lunch and our ELL population of 40%.
My students are active investigators who love to learn about the world around them.
They are full of wonder and excitement to know and understand how things work. Every day is a new adventure full of opportunities for growth and learning something new whether it is knowledge or a skill.
My Project
Little people feel a lot of big emotions. As they have new experiences, they also develop emotional responses that they are not sure how to deal with. In preschool, we spend a lot of time learning about our feelings and appropriate ways to respond when things do not go as we would like.
Preschoolers need safe and soft materials they can use when they are trying to bring their emotions and behaviors back under control.
Expression cushions will allow students to express how they are feeling even if they do not have the language to say the word. They will also be able to learn the correct vocabulary in English and Spanish. The soft letter, shape, and number manipulatives will provide a calming activity that will still engage their brains while they work on self-regulating their emotions. Students will begin to understand complex feelings and develop effective coping strategies for upsetting events.
