My students need to explore self-identity as any youngster but these "extra posters" allow them to highlight themselves as "relevant" and utilize their creativity! Although specified for grades 3-6, many of our youngsters have conglomerate delays.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am honored as a school psychologist to provide conglomerate, counseling services to a diversified population of children in special education who come largely from poor socioeconomic backgrounds and a myriad of adverse childhood experiences, including various trauma. With humility, it is my desire to create corrective experiences and relationships for these students and often their families or homes with the greater world beyond the special act district they currently attend for schooling. It is my goal to be creative in the ways that psychological services help these children to organize and further develop psychologically, emotionally and cognitively as individuals in a connected and conscientious way as members of society.
Although I am passionate about the work we do with the students and families we service it is often circumvented by fiscal limitations of our district from one year to the next.
In addition, as a district of high staff turnover, it is important to allow students to see and come to experience a connection with individuals and corporations beyond the district who also "care" for what happens "to" them and "for" them. Connection and corrective experiences in a "greater sense", is my goal in working with these students.
My Project
For so many of my students, they have felt alone in their struggles or abandoned by caregivers and often thrown away by systems after systems in their young lives. I have worked in communities with children of adverse life experiences and now I work with children who are in a highly specialized setting sometimes seemingly disconnected from "community, family, a sense of belonging". In this specialized school system for my students of extraordinary circumstances, hardships and deficits, I want to create connection and belonging in the world. As it relates to "Maslow's Hierarchy Of Needs", a basic theory of human motivation, there are needs ranging from "physiological & safety" to "love/belonging, esteem (self-respect and respect of others), and self-actualization (personal potential and peak experiences)". I want my children to have to have all the opportunities to grow and develop in a full spectrum no matter how they started in life or how initially stunted.
The "Headline Posters" here in this project highlight the portion of Maslow's Needs as it pertains to respect and particularly "self-actualization".
