How can we expect preparation for the future when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? A review of student knowledge of careers, living skills and job skills performance data indicate that students with disabilities are the lowest performing sub-group at our high school.
Walking into my classroom, you will find 15 amazing, motivated students who are eager to reach their goals of more independence in their daily living and career skills.
My self-contained class is a place full of a wide range of disabilities and learning levels. This is a place for my students to be challenged to reach their full potential. Students spend their time building a strong foundation for their future, as they transition into adulthood; through academics, daily living skills, and career development.
It is my goal to empower my students through expanding their possibilities of success as they transition into life after high school.
My Project
I am asking for the Amelia Bedelia and Shel Silverstein book series to help my students instill a joy for reading through entertainment and social skills development. The characters in these books will not only take my students on adventures but will also allow them to understand the meaning of everyday idioms and social situational skills. As my students listen along, they will be able to comprehend the material and apply the skills to their daily living.
My students' need for these books will instill a love of reading, promote higher-order thinking, and ensure social skills learning success as they transition into adulthood and life after high school.
I can’t wait to see my students’ growth in their knowledge of word meaning, character development, and higher order thinking skills as they learn much-needed life lessons through the different characters found in these books. Please help my students learn to love reading with the Amelia Bedelia and Shel Silverstein book series.
