Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am trying to get the fourth graders in my class to get excited about reading and sharing. I would like to create a "Writing Center" where students can create a written "book talk" to share their love of the books that they read. After they read a book, they can rate the book and write a short synopsis of it. Students will put it in a scrapbook so that others will be able to see if they want to read the book. I often have a problem with students trying to abandon books because they don't know what the book is about. With this program, students can share with each other and improve their literacy skills at the same time.
