My Students
I teach a group of diverse students with a range of talents and unique personalities. All of the students have special needs, and most come from the immediate area surrounding Wagner Public Housing.
My students and parents have faced significant challenges during remote learning and yet have stayed committed to their education.
They bring light to a time when we are all dealing with so much trauma and adjusting to our new normal.
My new 3rd graders have significantly struggled due to the transition to remote learning during their 2nd-grade year. Despite this, they still work hard to recall prior knowledge, are eager to learn new things, and, most of all, they do it all with a smile and even a few jokes along the way.
My Project
These materials will help my students build confidence, practice skills, and limit distractions. All of my students are currently reading below grade level. Being that my class is a new class this year we are starting completely from scratch.
Our library is currently filled with books that my students can't read, and the books we do have are heavily used.
Filling our library with new books that I can send home or make lesson recordings would greatly help my students.
All of my students struggle to stay focused during remote learning. Many of them are home with other family members including kids that are also attending remote learning. These headphones for each child will allow them to tune out distractions.
Many parents have requested paper supplies to have students practice writing. A printer would allow me to print and mail materials out to students so that they can continue to work on traditional skills not supported by remote learning.
