My Students
I LOVE READING. This is the motto of our 8th grade English class this year. All this year we've been working hard to build an appreciation for and love of literature.
I have the privilege of teaching the hardest working students in the District of Columbia!
At our school, all of us are climbing the mountain to and through college. Despite the challenges that poverty, crime, and discrimination may present, my students are beating the odds through grit and determination. Our goal is that all of us will grow as readers by at least 1.5 years.
My Project
It has been amazing to see how invested my students have become in reading. Building a love of reading will not just help them in college, but for the rest of their lives. Their love of reading is motivating them to read more and more, allowing them to practice important reading strategies at school and at home.
In order to keep this momentum going, I want to build my classroom library with high-interest books that students will not be able to put down! I am asking for 48 books at a variety of reading levels, all of which will catch the interest of my students.
Too often students become discouraged readers because they see it as a chore or an assignment.
This keeps them from building a true love of reading and learning. Help me catch their interest NOW and inspire them to become life-long readers!
