I Love Metamorphosis!

Help me give my students the experience of being young scientists observing and journaling first hand the metamorphosis of butterflies, and learn about the sequence of animals' life cycles and create corresponding art to express their creativity!

My Students

I love my students' courage to try new things, to learn new things, to make new friends. I love their enthusiasm for learning. They all have come together as a team already this year. I see them helping each other and caring for each other. I love how easily they accept someone who has special needs. They seem to understand a couple of my students needing extra adult help and are very helpful and kind to them - no questions asked!

My Project

My students' learning will be enriched by experiencing first hand the metamorphosis of a butterfly. They will be young scientists by asking questions about the larvae that are delivered to our classroom and by observing the sequencing of the butterfly life cycle. They will check the larvae each day and watch them eat and grow into caterpillars, form chrysalises and finally beautiful butterflies! They will journal their hypothesis and day to day observations by writing and illustrating what they observe. The sequencing cards will reinforce what they have learned.

Lastly, they will read Eric Carle's amazing caterpillar book and use their creativity to make a beautiful butterfly art piece!
