My students need a set of 10 headphones with microphones and 8 USB Flash Drives to use during online Achieve 3000 reading lessons and digital class projects.
Imagine a student surrounded by peers who read better than him, but he can't use the read-aloud feature without bothering others. He also wants to be creative with his projects but doesn't have the right tools or a way to save his work. My students need headphones with mics and flash drives.
Our small Louisiana school is located in an economically challenged area.
Approximately 70% of our students are on free or reduced priced lunch. Some are homeless, while others live in impoverished neighborhoods.
Our demographic is very diverse. While fifty-five percent of our students are Caucasian, the other forty-five percent are minorities. Thirty-eight percent are African-American, and the other seven percent are Hispanic, Asian, Native American, and Native Alaskan.
Our students range in scholastic ability; yet, students of all levels are provided opportunities to work cooperatively to produce meaningful products that encourage academic growth. Many of our students have limited technology and resources at home; thus, our school strives to give our students opportunities to work with as much technology as possible.
My Project
Headphones with microphones will serve two very important purposes. Our students participate in Teen Biz (Achieve 3000), a reading comprehension program. Achieve 3000 allows students to work at their Lexile Reading Levels. For those students who read below their grade level or are classified as ESL students (English Speaking Limited), Achieve allows these students to listen to the articles. Unfortunately, the students who really need to take advantage of this feature do not because others may become distracted or even callous.
Our curriculum requires that students complete technologically rich projects and presentations. Headphones with mics will allow for students to explore the narration features of PowerPoint and Movie Maker, making presentations more personalized and expressive.
Classroom flash drives also helps with projects, allowing students to scan in pictures and documents from home and work on computers in various locations on school campus.
Please consider supporting my students.
Your donation will help reduce some of the anxieties my underprivileged students (and their families) go through when assigned a task that deals with technology. ALL students will have the necessary technology to create dramatic PowerPoint presentations and Movie Maker videos without feeling limited. Your donation will also help my struggling readers feel safe about using the listening access features they so desperately need! I thank you so much!
