Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are adventurous fourth, fifth, and sixth-grade students with emotional disturbance. They work diligently to overcome the challenges of their disabilities and strive to be their best. They challenge me daily, and I enjoy finding ways to help them. Teaching multiple grade levels to students, who are at, below, and above grade level and adjusting my teaching to meet their social and emotional needs, is demanding and rewarding at the same time.
More than half of my students are from low-income households and are transported to our school from all parts of our school district.
My school community is very supportive and encouraging to my students and me. When people say "It takes a village...," I have learned that it truly takes a village in order to meet the needs of every student in my classroom. For this reason, I do my best to be creative to provide them what they need and make our classroom a positive learning environment. DonorsChoose.org and supporters allow me to get closer to meet the needs of all students.
My Project
The UNICEF Power Bands will be used for students to track their activity throughout the day. Students will get to chart their data and then at the end of the school year and see how far they would be able to get if they walked around the world. Students will learn the importance of health and fitness and connect their physical activity to social impact.
The Kid Power Band syncs with an app that encourages kids to take steps and earn Power Points.
The more points earned, the more food they can help UNICEF deliver to malnourished children around the world.
