Our students are 3rd and 4th dual language learners at an elementary school in Woodstock, IL. Half of our students are native Spanish speakers and the half are native English speakers. They are inquisitive, hard working and active. Sometimes too active which is why we are requesting flexible seating. We love teaching them just as much as they love learning. We hope this seating will help them get their wiggles and jiggles out so they continue to be successful learners.
My Project
As our student population and our teaching methods evolve, our classroom environments should also evolve with them. This proposal is for funding to transform our Dual-Language Classrooms into an alternative classroom settings.
Giving our students a choice of where they sit in our classroom, what type of seats they use, and allowing for independence are all key aspects of creating a flexible, dynamic, and effective classroom environment.
We are hoping to do just that with the following flexible seating options: Avantree Standing Desks, ECR4 Kids Floor Desks, foam kneeling pads, and fidget bands. Some of our students love to sit on the ground and stretch their legs in front of them while they work. The ECR4 Kids Floor Desks would be a perfect choice for that type of learner. In addition to the floor desks, we have some students that like to kneel and work at a low table. The foam pads would make that a comfortable choice for that particular learner. During independent work time or a whole group lesson, students would be able to use either option to work on assignments and be successful learners. Another group of students love to stand while they work and the Avantree Standing Desks would be the perfect fit for this type of learner. They could stand up during a whole group lesson or independent work time and be able to focus and complete assignments. The last choice that we would love to have in our classrooms are the fidget bands. Some students just need to do something with their feet while they are sitting at a desk in a chair. The fidget bands would help keep their feet busy without making noise during a whole group lesson or independent work time.
