My school is a Title 1 school located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. My students have many challenges they face on a daily basis, yet they show up to school willing and ready to learn. Often times the bright spot in their day is coming to school. I want my classroom to be the highlight of their day! I strive to create a safe haven when other things around them are dark and dismall or out of their control.
All children deserve a bright future!

My Project
My students love to reading, especially our small group time.
I want to incorporate literature circles within our small group rotations, so my students are able to begin reading chapter books.
Unfortunately, I do not have multiple sets of chapter books for us to read in small groups, which is where my problem begins.
With the books requested I will be able to use the multiple copies in small groups and not only continue to foster a love for reading, but also expose my students to books with characters who represent them. In all of the books I have requested the characters are from different cultures and ethnicity. The characters are also able to teach friendship and interpersonal skills, while taking the kids on an adventure through the story. Your donation to this grant will help my students tremendously, by having them exposed to books to build their lifelong love of reading.
