My Project

Setting the stage to engage involves a lot of prep and activities. I want to create unique learning opportunities for my students to be actively involved. I would like to start with a picture book to set the beginning tone for various days. These selected books set the tone for the day, week, and units.

As a song we sing in class, "A book can take you places that you may want to go." By reading these varieties of books, they will start our themes and units off without a hitch.

In Kindergarten, we focus on phonemic awareness. Some of the books like "Did You Take Away the B?" and "Take Away the A" are all books that will help set my stage for learning. By starting my lesson off with a story, the students will instantly be engaged to learn. "May I Have A Word" will help when talking about words and sentences?

In Kindergarten, we are constantly teaching and reviewing rules. What better way to prepare and check a story? "That's Not My Name" and "Diamond Rattle Loves to Tattle" are perfect examples of these books.

Each book will grab their attention, as mentioned above, and keep them engaged. Each book will add depth and rigor to the students learning. The books chosen are books that most students have not heard of before and will be unique in our classroom.

The spinning wheel will be used as an incentive for the students as they practice those rules. We will also use it in our reading lesson to build and create words.
