Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

For my Prek students this is their first real formal education experience. I want to instill a love of learning in each one of them. My students are very diverse which adds to the uniqueness of our classroom environment. In addition most of my students qualify for free or reduced meals. I believe in intentional learning and purposeful play in early childhood learning. These students will be extremely fortunate to gain additional experiences if these items were available for them in our classroom.

My Project

Dramatic play is a type of play where children assign and accept roles and act them out. It’s pretending to be someone or something else. It is play that involves breaking down the barriers of reality and results in serious and natural learning.

When students are given the opportunity to act and role play it teaches self-regulation and conflict resolution, encourages language development, supports math and literacy; and best of all it is empowering to the child.

Our students will be able to role play with these materials which will nicely support our Domain 2 - Community Helpers. In this particular domain the students will learn about community helpers in their neighborhoods.
