Everyday is a busy and exciting day in Kindergarten. We are constantly learning new skills, reading strategies, socialization, and independence. With such ownership comes feelings of excitement, pride, responsibility, and confidence to take safe risks as learners.
I work with 23 vibrant and energetic Kindergarteners (five to six years old) every day.
For some of my students, they have been in school since the age of three. For others, this is their introduction to the school environment. No matter where a student comes from, I welcome them with open arms. We work together as a team every day to learn reading, math, science and social studies. I see kids from all walks of life and they are all welcomed with open arms in to a nurturing environment. Every child is important and has much to learn and share.
My Project
I am requesting one iPad and headphones for the classroom. The iPad will be used for a young student with Down Syndrome. the iPad is needed to help her be successful in modifying to curriculum and providing proper, developmentally appropriate support. Specific activities would include numbers, counting, sorting, and segmenting/blending, fluency, handwriting practice, letter identification and recognition, and one-to-one matching for reading. Most importantly, this will allow her to use technology to receive the same education as everyone in the room. The touch screen on an iPad is developmentally appropriate for this age level.
The world we live in today is so driven by technology. It is vital that students are introduced to different methods of technology from a young age.
Through the use of this project, a child who struggles in the everyday classroom will have an opportunity to be successful.
She will be provided the proper support necessary to be successful in a general education setting.
