Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As my students walk into the classroom they can often be heard asking what special event we have for the day! They are eager to experience learning in a fun and interesting way. My Kindergarten students are eager to participate in new and hands-on activities they may not have a chance to do at home.
My young students are filled with wonder and joy as they learn something new each day.
Our school is a Title l school in an area where many of the students live in apartments. Many students live with two or three families. At home, they may not have some of the opportunities they could get at school.
My Project
My school does not have a visual arts teacher so the classroom teacher is in charge of art. Our school does not have a budget for art supplies so teachers must work with limited tools. This is challenging without supplies. To provide students with a variety of activities we need many items to keep the students’ interest. An assortment of tactile items such as dough and foam provides a sensory experience. Then materials such as alphabet stencils help connect art to other areas of the curriculum. Students are so excited to use new materials and this really energizes the learning.
