Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a busy, inquisitive group of second grade students who are eager to learn! They love hands on, engaging activities that allow them to work and be successful independently. They want to prove how clever they are and all the things they are now able to do by themselves.
We are so eager to develop and support successful, independent learners.
They are so excited about learning and so self driven to discover. They are bright, excited, inquisitive, and kind. Unfortunately, many of them come from very low income homes and typically come in to my classroom without the same experiences and advantages of other students. Despite the odds, they are working extremely hard and excelling at so much! Everyday, I am impressed and delighted by these people that are growing in my classroom.
My Project
My students are emerging readers and are so eager to access all books! They are so excited to look through and choose favorite characters, exciting plots, or interesting stories, but are so disappointed when the books are outside of their independent abilities.
These individual listening stations will give them the opportunity to hear and follow along with books that they aren't ready to read independently.
Listening to books allows kids to expand their vocabulary, improve their fluency, deepen their comprehension, and just overall enjoy a wider range of literature than they could before!
My students are voracious about their reading and these stations help build their independence, their confidence, and their continued success as growing readers.
