I teach kindergarten through second grade English language learners. This is my first year teaching kindergarten ELLs and it has been quite the learning experience - for me! I am learning every day what works best with this grade. They love coming to my class in small groups and are always willing to try something new. I also teach a group of young entrepreneur middle schoolers about running a business and financial literacy.
My students are so excited to come to ENL class that they sometimes get in trouble from their classroom teacher for racing to the door when I arrive.
Being in a small group allows the students to take risks and build confidence so they can return to their large class equipped with the necessary tools to do class work with all the students.
My Project
I have a lot of great games, toys, and activities in my room. But my room is small. So I need storage, specifically, vertical storage! My students feel so comfortable in my room, some of them will start taking out their favorite activities as soon as they step foot in my room!
The doors on the cube storage will prevent my students from taking boxes out when they are not supposed to.
The tall bookcase will be useful for all my teacher and professional development books. The cube storage will be used for the many boxes of games and activities that teach phonics and phonemic awareness. The smaller organizational boxes will make it easier to store some of these games that came in cumbersome boxes. We also need new storage space to store all of our t-shirts and hoodies that our Young Entrepreneurs are selling.
