My students need Minecraft books because we don't have nearly enough to meet the constant demand and these books appeal to both reluctant readers and the programming/engineers among us.
The library is literally the center of our school community. An open, warm and inviting space with vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows that look out upon the playground. This is the space where 600+ students from Head Start, Developmental Preschool on up to sixth grade gather once a week. Some come to the library to rest, some engage with books while others create projects or dive into technology.
Our students deserve every opportunity to succeed.
Our neighborhood consists of immigrants, refugees, working class, middle class, and the working poor.
We are African-American, African, Latinax, Asian, Southeast Asian, Vietnamese, Pacific Islander, Samoan, Somali, Native American and white. 78.6% of our students receive free and reduced lunches. 99.9% of our students love the library.
My Project
What I do know about Minecraft is that every single day I have students asking me for Minecraft books. Searching the catalog for Minecraft. Checking to see if Minecraft books are hiding somewhere. Running to the returns cart to check if any Minecraft books have been returned but not yet shelved. Fighting over the one available copy of Minecraft. I am in the land of nonstop Minecraft requests and I cannot meet the demand. HELP!
I cannot deal with another sad face staring back at me when I inform them that all the Minecraft books are checked out.
Your support will fix that and install a brand new collection of Minecraft books for our reluctant readers as well as for our future engineers and programmers.
Your support puts these books on the shelves. Our budget is small, very small, so we rely on grants and the kindness of people on Donors Choose to subsidize our collection with books that are relevant and engaging. By supporting this project you put these books on the shelves and in direct contact with students, making an impact on their lives and giving them access to books they would not normally have access too.
