Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach students with disabilities such as autism and other health impairments. My students are full of energy. They respond so well to positive feedback. They become full of energy when I encourage them to try something because I am sure they can do it. My students are hard-working and resilient.

I have seen their self-efficacy grow when they see that I believe in them.

They become aware of their own abilities to succeed.

All my students are well below grade level, but they have been meeting their IEP goals. I have seen improvement in their reading fluency. Reading Fluency has been one of the main reasons they are below grade level since it affects their comprehension in all academic tasks.

My Project

The majority of my students are below grade level in reading. However, that doesn't mean they didn't understand or do not know about a story.

Help me provide my students with disabilities with multiple ways of action and representation through their voice and active oral engagement.

Using the headphones with a microphone, students can show their knowledge. They can demonstrate comprehension.

Additionally, they can use Speech to Text as accommodation during assessments. Students need the headphones to listen to passages and then demonstrate understanding through the "speech to text" mode of answering questions.
