Curious, inquisitive, hardworking...just a few of the qualities I admire about my students. They constantly ask questions, and, at times, I do not have an answer because they are trying to dive deeper into their learning or take it in a direction I did not consider. In science, the world is always learning more, growing and changing. As scientists, they are also trying to learn more about the world around them. They are constantly trying to feed their curiosities.
"I never teach my pupils, I only provide the conditions in which they can learn." -Albert Einstein.
Teaching children in the 21st century has shifted our role from being the 'instructor' to facilitating students to construct their own learning. To give students control and responsibility for their learning, the facilitator must have the structure, organization and tools to engage students and build their confidence as lifelong learners. My goal is to give my students an environment in which they are engaged and active, feel comfortable and relaxed, and are excited about learning. My goal is to provide a flexible learning environment for the students in my classes.
My Project
Curiosity lives naturally in every person, especially students. Earlier this week, during a Physical Science lesson on the properties of matter, a student asked, "Why does ice float if its molecules are tightly packed like a solid, and it is also made of water, shouldn't it sink?" What an excellent question. I told them to look up the answer, and after taking time to get out his computer and search for an answer, he found a TEDed video on why ice floats in water. An Alexa Show would allow the entire class the opportunity to hear and see an answer to a question their classmates may have without skipping a beat. I love feeding my students curiosities at the moment, but sometimes it can take time away from the lesson. My goal is to maximize the learning in my room and an Alexa Show would be a great tool to help!
"The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." -Albert Einstein
My students will continue to grow their curiosities using this incredible piece of technology. Their love of learning is infectious, and I can't wait to see what new learning adventures will come our way with the sound of our voices!
