"Ugh, I HATE to read!" Sadly, we hear this sentiment all too frequently from kids in our classrooms. I strongly believe that anyone who "hates" to read simply has not found their book yet: that one book that brings them to another world and somehow, magically, helps them relate to their own.
Our student population is incredibly special.
We are extremely diverse - my classroom contains a multitude of races, abilities, and economic backgrounds. Our school believes in celebrating our differences by learning from one another, and that is exactly what I see my students do every day. We like to call ourselves a "real-world school;" our school is a place where many different types of people must come together to learn, grow, and do amazing work.
My Project
Fifth graders are in the midst of a major transition: their minds, bodies, and world views are changing. The books I'm requesting will help my students at different reading levels relate to their own world in a meaningful way. The characters in these books are clever, strong, and just a little bit lost; by reading about kids their own age experiencing confusing, difficult, and sometimes even funny life changes, my students will see that they are not alone. Maybe they will even fall in love with reading!
This project will put high-quality books in the hands of kids who desperately need them.
By funding this project, you can help so many children become life-long readers. A good book can truly work wonders in a child's life. Your donation will make miracles happen in our classroom!
