My Students
I teach seventh-grade students in a high needs, inner-city setting. Our school is extremely diverse, with nearly fifty percent living below the poverty line and seventy percent receiving free or reduced-price lunch services. In my class, I have students that are either living below the poverty line or teeter slightly above it.
My students are incredibly curious, innovative, and creative.
They learn best when they are exposed to hands-on experiential learning and when they can apply the knowledge they've learned in class to a real-life situation.
My Project
The last two school years have brought significant changes to how learning happens within the classroom. Gone are the copies, as we've moved into a digital age in order to limit touch between students and teachers. This means that students complete a lot of instruction through the use of their Chromebooks. While I completely recognize that students are so fortunate to be 1:1 with this technology, this has led to challenges throughout the day.
Many students forget to charge their Chromebooks at home each night; this has lead to the inability to complete classwork material for an entire day.
Students stress out about not being able to access the material, ad feel left out of the classroom. The use of the chargers and charging station will provide students with a place to charge their Chromebooks when they are not in use during the school day. This will allow them to access their material for all classes, regardless of their charging the night before.
