My Students
Our students come from diverse backgrounds both culturally and economically. Culturally, our students are 66% Caucasian, 28% Hispanic, 2% African-American, and 4% Other. 67% of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes and receive free/reduced-price lunches. We use a schoolwide approach to prepare our students to be college and career ready.
I have a very energetic, loving class.
As soon as they walk into the room, they are ready to learn. How can they learn if they are told to stay in your seats without moving? Each year, our kids are expected to stay in their seats longer.
My students love to encourage each other. They are the most hardworking students I have come across. If a student is struggling, I have students who will be there to help cheer them on.
My Project
Instead of making a student sit still for long amounts of time in a regular chair, why not give them a stool that moves? This would help the students who need to wiggle to learn. Some of our best thinking comes out when we can move around! With the wiggle stools, the student could move around without getting out of their chairs and disrupting their peers.
Some students need to move around more than others!
The stools will be used during instruction. They can be moved easily if we are doing group work.
Studies show that by allowing students to have some wiggle time, their learning and focus improves.
