My students are kindergarten age children in an area that has a diverse range of backgrounds. They enjoy coming to school and learning about their community and each other. Students at this age love to explore their surroundings and ask questions and my students are not any different.
I want to encourage their excitement for learning by providing opportunities to stimulate their minds in our everyday learning experiences.
Our community is very supportive of what we do in the classroom. Although they vary in their home life, their children are most important and their educational success is a priority.
My Project
Imagine digging your hands into a pile of cool sand, squishing the sand between your fingers, and shaping it into something amazing. I remember how fun it was to play and explore in sand as a child. I love the thought that I could bring that fun childhood excitement into my classroom for my students.
My students will be able to find hidden treasures and shape the sand into magical images that make them happy and excited about learning.
Students will unearth treasures such as animals, dinosaurs, shapes, etc. that partner with various lessons that we are learning in class. They also will transform a pile of sand into creative shapes and images to inspire discussion to enrich speaking and listening skills. I see the sand table to be a place where imagination will grow and excite students to be curious and ask questions.
