Help me give my students a sand and activity play table, therapy cards and games, fidgets and other items to create a safe place to learn positive ways to express big emotions.

My students are part of a newly created program that supports mental health needs as an early intervention. Parents and teachers are doing all they can to meet every need and they need more support. Children are under more stress now than in previous years. Our teachers are tirelessly working to meet state standards and be a loving role model for students. Parents often work more than one job to meet the basic needs of their families. Everyone is stressed out and children have not learned the skills to handle these issues.
Children who are struggling with emotional regulation, social skills, defiance, bullying, and trauma all come to this classroom to learn about mental well-being.
In this classroom, students learn in-depth about emotions and calming strategies. Each child is given a private 30-45 minute session weekly for 12 weeks to address emotional/behavioral struggles. Parents, teachers and the student are all included in goal setting. It is amazing to see children learning what makes them feel certain emotions and practice how to handle it without aggression or missing valuable teaching time. Parents are able to implement skills in the home that reinforce positive behaviors.
Thank you so much for considering our mental wellness classroom! Your support of these materials means that our students will be able to use the most evidence-based therapies while in school. We offer this support to all students in school to remove potential barriers such as parent work schedules and lack of insurance. Children learn through play and emotional wellness is no different. Play therapy, sand tray therapy, and expressive arts therapy gives a voice to emotions and experiences that words cannot describe. This classroom is run by a Licensed Mental Health Counselor- meaning these students, parents, and teachers are being supported by a highly trained individual. Project items include an activity table, fidgets, markers, water colors, toys, games, and books.
Your generous support means that vulnerable and hurting children will receive comprehensive mental health support that otherwise would not be available to them.
All too often we see and hear of heartbreaking stories of mental health breakdowns that lead to harm of self and others. Our goal is to provide intensive therapeutic interventions in school and at an early age. Please join us in making mental health the priority that it needs to be.
