Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second grade teacher at Chicago International Charter School - Bucktown Campus. The most frequent phrase that I hear from students during writing time in my classroom is "I don't know what to write about!" While there are plenty of times when a writing topic is assigned, I believe it is very important for my young writers to explore various topics and genres of writing that are meaningful to them. I would like to to add materials to my writing center that enable to students to choose a topics that they are interested in! Students will be able to go to the writing center if they are not sure what to write about and use the materials to choose a topic in which they are interested in writing. For example, the students can go to the "help yourself writing rings" center and choose a writing prompt that is interesting to them. When students are able to write about topics that spark their interest, they have more enthusiasm about their writing. With the additional writing centers from your generous donation, the students in my class will become better writers!
