Help me give my students what they need to stimulate their sensory and academic needs. I have students who have been diagnosed with autism. They learn and grow from very specific learning tools, in this case, anything magnetic.
My students are very special because we are from a rural community and don't always have access to materials that others from larger and wealthier communities may have. My students have special needs, and it is my job, as a speech therapist, to address those needs. They have deficits that may hinder them from communicating with their family, peers, and teachers which affects their ability to get their basic, academic and social needs met not only in the classroom but in daily life. I work with a variety of children from ages birth to eighteen years old. I love my job but it can be challenging working with such a wide age group and with children that have so many different needs. Our community is filled with many people that care about our school and the success of the children in it. Our school is very special because it is filled with educated and compassionate teachers that are devoted to providing the best learning environment for their students.
My Project
These magnetic materials will have an important impact on my student's excitement to learn. They will prompt him to do the tasks that I want him to do to be able to learn to communicate with others. The items that drive my students are sometimes very specific. When you find just the right toy or snack, for example, that will inspire them to do the tasks that will help them to learn, then you need to capitalize on that to utilize the short time that you have with them.
Magnetic toys have sparked excitement and interest in almost all of my students to want to complete any task that I ask of them.
Finding the right incentive is vital to learning of any kind.
