My Students
I proudly teach third grade at a Title One school in Grand Prairie, Texas. Our school is committed to putting scholars first and meeting them where they are academically and emotionally.
I have an amazingly diverse group of students that not only make me a better person, but also a better teacher.
They come to school happy and ready to work despite the challenges they may face in and out of the classroom. They are lights in an often dark world.
My Project
Having centers that are meaningful and not busy work is important to me. I believe teachers should individualize instruction for their students through small group teaching, but when doing so, we must also provide centers.
One of the issues I have with centers is making sure my students are doing the work correctly, not just going through the motions.
I want to be able to provide my students with centers engage them academically, but also allows them to check their work in the moment.
Power Pen! and the Power Pen! quiz cards are a fun way to build reading and math skills. Students read the passage or workout math problems and then simply touch the answer with the Power Pen! They are instantly given feedback letting them know if they chose the correct answer or not. I am also requesting math and language cards that are self checking. My students will simply read and answer the questions on the front of the cards using dry erase markers and flip them over to check the answers on the back.
