My students need speakers and headphones to help them participate in 21st century learning and my special needs students need adaptive scissors for completing projects.
Technology is part of our students' daily lives, and the library is integral in helping students access and find relevant information, as well as learning how to use technology in a safe and appropriate manner.
My students attend a small K-6 elementary school just outside the city limits of Seattle.
Our students represent approximately 14 language groups, with our highest concentration being Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Tongan, Samoan, and Cambodian. Approximately 66% of our students come from homes where English is not their first language, and 83% of our students receive free or reduced cost breakfast and lunch. Our school is brimming with teachers and staff members that care about each student's potential to learn, assisting families in learning with their students, and working with students to become responsible citizens.
My Project
Each of the technology items in my project will be used by/or with my students to enhance their learning as they are using their audio and kinesthetic senses. I often share book trailers and short videos with my students to enhance our library lessons, but the speakers I have constantly lose their sound throughout our viewing. By having new speakers I am ensured that we will be able to hear our presentations. My students also need headphones for our desktop computers to allow them to use learning programs in a quiet manner in the library. My young students with disabilities are also in need of adaptable scissors in order for us to complete our library projects and improve their gross motor skills.
Being able to hear presentations clearly along with listening to educational programs is integral in today's library classroom.
Yet they are not supplied to schools through technology departments. Having the tools that are appropriate for all students to learn with and use, allows me to adapt projects for students. Help me change my students' experiences in the library by helping fulfill this project.
