Greetings and thank-you for taking the time to read my proposal. I am a pre-kindergarten teacher at an elementary school in Charlotte, NC. Most of the children attending this school come from low-income families. I have 19 four-five year olds with more than half of them speaking another language other than English. Science is a subject that is not integrated in the curriculum enough. I am writing this proposal in an effort to obtain a Big Screen Microscope, prepared slides, and a Watch-It-Grow Window Greenhouse for my classroom that will be used not only for the current group of students I have now, but for future classes as well. "Growing Things" is one of the themes from the curriculum that I teach from and an activity that we do each year is to watch a bean sprout. In the past, we've observed this growth through a cup. The greenhouses I am requesting would give my students a clearer view as the beans begin to sprout. I am also requesting a microscope to use during small group activities to reinforce the different parts of a plant and/or vegetable. The microscope will also be an item that a lot of my students had never seen nor had the opportunity to use and I always want to expose my students to new and learning enriching items. Thank-you for your time my students and I really appreciate it.
