Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have intellectual disabilities which makes it difficult for them to learn. It also makes it necessary to differentiate learning and give an individualized learning plan ti each one of them. Our school serves a diverse community and 100% of the students receive free lunch and breakfast.
My students work hard to learn math, science, and language arts as well as other life skills.
They are a part of the Best Buddies program and love working with their buddies from the 3rd grade classroom at our school. They also love participating every year in the Special Olympics.
My Project
My class needs a new iPad to use for differentiating their math lessons. On the iPad, I can set each child up to learn at their own level. I have students who are learning things from counting, writing and recognizing numbers all the way up to students who are learning to multiply and divide.
iPads allow for individualized learning for all students which is very helpful in a classroom with intellectually challenged children.
My students will also use the iPad to do simulations in science. For example they will learn how magnets work by experimenting with a magnet simulation. They also learn about seasons by observing the relationship of the earth tilted on its axis which causes the seasons to change.
In addition to math and science, my students will use the iPad to improve their language arts and reading skills. They read all sorts of books, learn the alphabet, write letters, and practice a variety of other language arts skills.
