Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with the most fantastic population of students in our district! We also happen to be the largest Title I school in our district. All of our students have the option to participate in the free breakfast and lunch program. Our students also have the opportunity to sign up for "Backpack Buddies" where they get to take home a backpack full of food home for the weekend.
I have the opportunity to work with students from all over the globe, from remote villages in Alaska to refugees from Gambia.
My Project
Weighted lap pads and blanked are a vital sensory tool that assists my K-2 Resource students access the general education curriculum more easily.
With the use of a weighted blanket during a break, students tend to self calm more quickly and remember to add in a breathing technique.
I have been told it helps," me feel safe and warm". What more could a teacher ask for?
The lap pads allow students to attend and focus on their work tasks, while feeling grounded. These weighted item promote concentration and teach independence in the special education classroom and the general education setting. I can't wait to see my student's full potential unlocked.
