My Title I school believes that every child matters and does whatever it takes to see success in each individual student. My class is made up of 22 energetic, kind, and enthusiastic first graders. Each of my students bring diversity and various learning styles to our classroom. 13 of my 22 students are English language learners who speak Spanish or Vietnamese. They show a passion for learning new topics from non-fiction texts. My students particularly enjoy science and social studies and will go to the school library to seek out books on topics that we are learning about. I’m so lucky to be a teacher of such enthusiastic, lifelong learners!
My Project
My first grade students are rapidly growing readers, writers, and mathematicians. I am hoping to give my students access to strong mentor text in all subject areas.
This will help them become lifelong learners as they learn from the experts!
Books such as Oliver Button is a Sissy, Pierre the Penguin, and The Paper Bag Princess will help my students learn comprehension skills like inferencing, theme, and character development.
By gaining new mathematical read aloud text, we will be able to link our strong interest in reading to our mathematical curriculum.
These mentor texts will help my students become strong mathematicians, readers, and writers in our first grade classroom!
